Profile: What Makes the Stauning Set Special
The Stauning Distillery is in Skjern on the Danish west coast. The set combines three of its bottlings as small samples and lets you compare the house style: Rye, Kaos and Smoke.
Stauning Kaos is made from three types of malt: classic single malt, peated single malt and rye whisky from malted rye. Stauning Smoke is a smoked single malt made only with ingredients from within three kilometres of the distillery.
Tasting Notes: What the Stauning Samples Taste Like
- Kaos: Slightly thick texture, flowery smoke meets strong cereal grains; a nutty note like salted roasted peanuts without sugar
- Smoke: Sharp wood smoke note with a leathery quality on the palate; the smoke mellows but the leather stays, with a hint of cocoa, hay and woody smoke, ending with a touch of bright lemon
