Portrait: What makes the Weingut Löwenthal Chardonnay 2024 special
The Chardonnay 2024 from Weingut Löwenthal is something like the relaxed gentleman among white wines - polished enough to make a good impression, but Relaxed enough not to try too hard. He's from the Palatinate, a region where the sun likes to work overtime and vines obviously thrive. The Löwenthal winery is one of those businesses that demonstrates that tradition and modern ease are not mutually exclusive. Here, they don't just make wine, they bottle a bit of attitude: down-to-earth, yet ambitious. The "brave" line, from which this Chardonnay originates, sounds almost too modest – because this wine certainly knows how to make an impression without being loud. The 2024 vintage has everything one expects from a contemporary white wine: clearly defined, well-structured, and with a balance that doesn't seem accidental. At 12% alcohol by volume, it remains pleasantly relaxed, while the 6.8 g/l acidity shows that someone had a good sense of timing. It is ideally served at 10 to 12°C – precisely when it is neither freezing nor sweating. Even beyond the glass, this Chardonnay has already made an impression: at the Falstaff Chardonnay Trophy 2024, it was awarded a strong 89.5 points. A number that doesn't necessarily need to be printed on a T-shirt – but could be.
What makes the Löwenthal Chardonnay particularly appealing is its unpretentious nature. No grand drama, no complicated stories, just a well-made quality wine that demonstrates that the Palatinate region not only has the capability, but also the desire to produce excellent wines.
And who knows – perhaps that's precisely his greatest trick: It seems so natural that you almost forget how much work and skill went into it.

About the Löwenthal Winery
The Löwenthal Winery was founded in the summer of 2022 in Eschbach on the Southern Wine Route. The winery takes its name from the Löwenthal, a picturesque valley that winds from the Madenburg castle ruins through the Haardt Mountains and surrounds the vineyards. On over 20 hectares of vines, the team led by estate manager Frank Keilbach cultivates Burgundy varieties such as Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay. The soils of clay, loess, and variegated sandstone offer ideal conditions for these grape varieties. With a clear focus on quality, traditional methods are combined with modern technologies to produce Burgundian-style wines. The wines are divided into a three-tiered quality pyramid, symbolized by paw prints on the bottles.
