With Lochlea, the Scottish distillery landscape is an independent, family-run farm distillery. The former Laphroaig Distillery Manager and current Lochlea Production Director and Master Blender, John Campbell, is not the only person responsible for the unmistakable style of their single malt. As one of only four distilleries in Scotland, Lochlea uses exclusively home-grown barley, distilling and maturing its whiskey on site.

TheSeasonal Releases feature the characteristic Lochlea -Style in four different ways every year, reflecting what happens on the farm as the seasons change. The Fallow Edition (Second Crop) tells of winter, when the fields come to rest after the harvest season.

For this year's bottling, Lochlea chose not only Oloroso, but also Pedro Ximénez Sherry Casks from. The result is a wonderfully lush, wintery dram that has a completely new taste profile. The Oloroso Casks impart intense notes of manuka honey and light syrup, while the new PX Casks provide warming notes of sweet-spicy ginger candy and ground coffee beans contribute.

• Nose: intense aromas of dark fruits and spicy ginger, followed by tobacco leaves and ground coffee
• Palate: full and soft in taste with notes of light syrup and Manuka honey, behind them again dark fruits and the sweet-spicy ginger
• Finish: warm, long finish with full tones of dark fruits and winter spices
