Portrait: What makes the Port Charlotte PMC: 01 2013 so special.
The sixth bottling of the Cask Exploration Series, specializing in exceptional finishes.
The heavily peated Port Charlotte PMC: 01 2013 received its finish in former Pomerol wine casks from the northeastern Bordeaux region of France.
The result is a delightfully balanced single malt with lots of peat, spicy oak tones and red fruits.
Each specific terroir is responsible for the aromas that a single malt can develop. This can be seen in particular with the Port Charlotte PMC: 01. The new addition to the Cask Exploration series spent the second half of its aging in Pomerol casks from Bordeaux (wines from the right bank of the Gironde and the Dordogne). This location is famous for its outstanding red wines, which get their special character from the nature of the soil and the corresponding aroma of the grapes. The velvety, elegant wines embody their origin, which is characterized by a warm climate and bluish-colored limestone and sandy soils.
The Port Charlotte PMC: 01 2013 tells the story of these vineyards.
Fully charged with the fruity aromas of black berries, plums and old leather from the Pomerol barrel, it is perfectly complemented by the salty-maritime influences of the Hebridean island of Islay, where the Port Charlotte matures.
Tasting Notes: This is what the Port Charlotte PMC: 01 2013 tastes like
- Nose: at the beginning warm peat smoke and ripe red fruits, behind it old leather and spicy oak, some honey and vanilla - above all maritime aromas of Seaweed and damp linen cloth, some ginger
- Palate: mouth-filling - malt sugar and peat smoke are present - clearly ripe blackberries and plums, plus the old leather again
- Finish: soft, maritime tones of mussels and sea air, some citrus zest and that typically elegant, demanding peat smoke that you can only find in a Port Charlotte
