Legend has it that when the current of the tides rushed into Talisker Bay with unusual force on a stormy night, it brought forth a luminous creature from the blackest depths of the sea and flooded the darkness with a captivating glow.
This powerful glow was carried through the storm to the Talisker Distillery, where it gave Talisker whiskey its very own character.
On the shores of Loch Harport, near the west coast of the rugged Isle of Skye, legends come true.
Talisker has been made here since 1830.
With its powerful smoky sweetness and aroma of sea salt, this whiskey is as elemental as land, sea or storm - a whiskey for the daring, made by the sea.
Talisker 11 years - a deep golden shimmering whiskey, which owes its differentiated taste nuances not least to the first-fill ex-bourbon casks in which it was stored.
Its consistency is subtly oily, the taste characterized by a fruity sweetness, a pinch of sea salt and the smoky notes of a campfire on the beach, which characterize the maritime character of this whiskey.
Finally, the peaty character of this powerful whiskey comes into its own in the strikingly sharp finish.
Nose: Maritime, with a hint of spice, the first impression is reminiscent of a campfire on the beach with dry seaweed, then deep-seated aromas of maritime saltiness and ship's engines take over on a base of drying, fresh linen
Palate: Gently oily texture - while the palate is delightfully sweet and smoky-spicy throughout, with a distinctly fruity touch reminiscent of an orchard glimpsed through smoke and sea mist - with a drop of water comes the sweet fruitiness and saltiness fully effective
Finish: long lasting and slightly smoky, with lingering warming spice
