Profile: What Makes Aberlour a’bunadh Alba Special
Aberlour’s a’bunadh Alba matured in casks of American oak – called Quercus alba. The selected casks are bottled naturally – that is, without colouring and without chill-filtration – at cask strength, “from the origin” (Gaelic: a’bunadh). While the classic a’bunadh uses sherry casks, the Alba version shows a more fruit-forward character with distinct apple notes.
Tasting Notes: What Aberlour a’bunadh Alba Tastes Like
- Nose: Sweet aromas of ripe apples and pears, behind them honey and vanilla; caramel and a hint of milk chocolate
- Palate: Ripe citrus fruit at first, then notes of baked apples – almonds in the background; black pepper, cinnamon and allspice
