Portrait: What makes the Luz Gin London Dry special
The Luz Gin London Dry from the Marzadro house is like the stylish Italian who arrives at the party all dressed up - but then shows with a wink that he can also be quite relaxed. Produced in the Italian Alps, more precisely in Trentino, this gin combines alpine precision with Mediterranean ease. Or, to put it another way: Here mountain air meets la dolce vita.
The Marzadro distillery itself looks back on a history characterized by passion and a spirit of experimentation. What once began with grappa has evolved over the years into a playground for high-quality spirits. And Luz Gin is a fine example of how seriously they take the art of distillation – without losing the fun.
The production process sounds almost like a well-planned vacation: First, the juniper is allowed to macerate undisturbed for a full 20 days – practically an extended spa retreat. The other botanicals, such as olive, woodruff, bay leaf, rosemary, and sage, are added later, but more in a short-term setting with a 48-hour stay.
Afterwards, everything reconvenes in the still, where it takes center stage with lemon peels from Lake Garda. The whole thing is distilled in a 1,000-liter still in a water bath – a method that seems almost nostalgic and simultaneously demonstrates the high value placed on artisanal precision.
Finally, it is brought to drinking strength with clear spring water from Monte Stivo. A bit like putting the finishing touches on a work of art.
And then? Then Luz Gin is ready for its grand entrance: whether in a classic Gin & Tonic, elegantly in a Naked Martini, or simply neat - without any drama, but with plenty of style.
A gin that doesn't need to be loud to stand out. It simply knows who it is.
Tasting Notes: This is how the Luz Gin London Dry tastes like
- Nose: On the nose, the juniper is clear and straightforward, immediately setting the tone. A classic opening that reveals the signature of a traditional London Dry Gin.
- Palate: On the palate, the gin presents itself as complex and dry with a decisive, almost self-assured structure. Herbal notes shape the profile and add depth, while the juniper remains pleasantly present. Overall, it leaves a dry, clearly defined impression with remarkable length.
- Finish: The finish is accompanied by a light citrus freshness, providing an elegant conclusion. Good persistence and a pleasant intensity linger for a while, harmoniously rounding off the overall impression.
