Gordon Graham’s Alchemy Series experiments, like the alchemists of old, with different ingredients and casks to create new, exciting bottlings. For this Double Cask, sherry-cask-matured malt whiskies were married with 12-year-old grain whiskies matured in former red wine casks.
The blend shows a heavy red fruit influence, balanced by subtle whiffs of toasted sugar and savoury nuts.
Tasting Notes: What Black Bottle Double Cask Tastes Like
- Nose: Dried fruit, walnuts, raisins, wood and orange; blackcurrant, damson, Seville orange and coffee cake
- Palate: Juicy dried fruit and distinct sherry – behind it dark grapes, toffee and a light spice; a blast of berries, cherry and raspberry with a layer of vanilla cream, softly spicy and warming
- Finish: A long, dry finale of grapes, overflowing red wines and flamed toffee with a light smoky tail; toasted brown sugar and runny toffee
