Profile: What Makes Tullamore D.E.W. Honey Special
Tullamore D.E.W. Honey celebrates the surprising meeting of Irish whiskey and natural Bohemian honey. The result is an exciting whiskey liqueur that shows the typical character of Tullamore D.E.W. Original with an additional touch of sweetness. It first came onto the market in 2021 in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany and Bulgaria.
The Tullamore D.E.W. brand has a long history: the distillery in Tullamore was founded in 1829 by Michael Molloy. After his death it passed to his nephew Bernard Daly, who made Daniel E. Williams manager. The initials D.E.W. stand for Daniel Edmund Williams, who started as a stable boy at 15 and was distillery manager by 25. In 1893 he introduced electricity and the first telephone to Tullamore. Tullamore D.E.W. was the first triple blend among Irish whiskeys, a mix of single malt, single pot still and single grain.
After the distillery closed in 1954 production was moved to other sites; in 2010 William Grant & Sons took over the brand. For Honey, the classic triple blend is infused with natural honey from Bohemian hives – a liqueur that unites whiskey character and honey sweetness.
