The advent calendar designed as an antique book by A.H. Riise not only contains some of the best spirits you'll ever taste - it also contains the journey of West Indian rum. 

Christopher Columbus discovered the West Indies on his second voyage to the New World in 1493.
One of the things he brought back was sugar cane.

The best island for growing sugar cane was St. Croix.
Because of its lush nature it earned the nickname "The Garden of the West Indies". 

St. Croix has been the center of sugar cane cultivation in the Danish West Indies since the early 1700s.
But sugar wasn't the only commodity.
It soon turned out thatß the residual product molasses could be used for the distillation of a sweet, aromatic alcohol.

One of the pioneers in the production of West Indian rum was the Danish one Pharmacist Albert Heinrich Riise who lived and worked in the Danish West Indies from 1838 to 1878.

His rum quickly became popular and in 1893 the old company A.H. Put Danish West Indian rum on the world map and received international recognition. 

The 24 different samples in this calendar are a homage to ancient rum history - some filled with the award-winning blends of yesterday, others with the News of 2022.
