Gordon’s London Dry Gin was developed by Alexander Gordon, a Londoner of Scots descent, who opened a distillery in Southwark in 1769 and moved to Clerkenwell in 1786. The gin is triple distilled and flavoured with juniper berries, coriander seeds, angelica root, liquorice, orris root and orange and lemon peel; the exact recipe has been kept secret since 1769. It did not require added sugar, which made the gin a “dry” gin. Today Gordon’s belongs to Diageo.
