Portrait: What makes the Belsazar Vermouth Red special

When you hear "Belsazar," you might think of ancient kings, operatic dramas, or particularly extravagant cats. In fact, this is a German vermouth original that combines Berlin coolness with Baden craftsmanship - a gentleman in a tuxedo with sneakers, so to speak.

The Belsazar brand was founded in Berlin in 2013 by two creative minds, who discovered that vermouth could do more than just play a supporting role in a cocktail glass. No sooner said than done: They combined sun-ripened wines from the Kaiserstuhl region of Baden with fine herbs and a dash of style awareness. The result is a vermouth that's as comfortable in a bar as it is in the living room.

Belsazar is produced in collaboration with a long-established family business in the Black Forest – and they know how to handle herbs. The rest is history... or rather: a story that continues with every sip.

The "Red" is, so to speak, the evening type among the Belsazars – dark, mysterious, a little retro, a little James Bond on the way to a rooftop party in Kreuzberg.

In short: Belsazar Vermouth Red is not a vermouth like any other. It's a statement. An invitation to an aperitif. And liquid proof that Berlin and the Black Forest have more in common than you might think—namely, damn good taste in bottle form.

Tasting Notes: This is how the Belsazar Vermouth Red tastes like

  • Nose: Complex and multi-layered with aromas of dried fruits, dark berries, and orange zest—spicy nuances of cinnamon, clove, and juniper rise to the nose, accompanied by a subtle herbal note and a hint of vanilla
  • Palate: velvety and balanced with a delicate sweetness - dried fruits such as figs and raisins meet dark chocolate, warm spices, and an elegant blend of herbs - the wine character remains present and harmonizes with the aromatic extracts and botanicals
  • Finish: long and pleasantly bitter-sweet - spicy and fruity notes fade away slowly, accompanied by a subtle caramel note and a hint of wormwood - a rounded finish with character
