Profile: What Makes Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin Ceramic Bottle Special
The Shed Distillery was opened in 2016 in Drumshanbo in County Leitrim by PJ Rigney and his wife Denise. PJ Rigney chose the remote location and, after many trips to the East, wanted to create a distillery where he could experiment with the union of exotic and local botanicals – inspired by the oldest oriental distillation traditions.
The result is Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin: an unusual combination of classic gin botanicals such as juniper and orris root with oriental ingredients such as gunpowder tea from China and Irish meadowsweet gathered in Drumshanbo. The name goes back to the gunpowder tea, whose leaves are rolled into little pellets reminiscent of grains of gunpowder.
This limited ceramic bottle was the gin’s first new bottle design and was first introduced as a global travel exclusive at Dublin Airport. Its illustrations tell the brand’s story and are inspired by the famous willow pattern.
