Profile: What Makes Kilchoman Machir Bay Special
Kilchoman’s Machir Bay in the tasting size of 200 ml! Machir Bay is the name of a beach near the distillery and at the same time the flagship of the Kilchoman range. Young whiskies from the distillery that matured in ex-bourbon barrels and ex-oloroso sherry butts are used for this bottling.
Kilchoman was founded in 2005 by Anthony and Kathy Wills at Rockside Farm on Islay’s west coast – the first new distillery on the island in more than 124 years. It is a true farm distillery and the smallest on the island: part of the barley grows on the surrounding Rockside Farm and is malted on its own malting floor; for the “100% Islay” the whisky is made entirely on the farm.
Machir Bay brings the typical Kilchoman freshness into a smoky profile: light peat smoke, sweet vanilla and a fresh citrus note that also tastes of sea salt.
