The classic from the house of Dewar & Sons. The twelve-year-old receives its secondary maturation in first-fill bourbon barrels, which accentuates the vanilla and toffee notes. The double cask ageing gives a notably smooth, rounded texture.
The nose brings juicy fruit and creamy malt, the palate barley malt, warm buttered toast and honey.
Tasting Notes: What Dewar’s 12 Year Old Tastes Like
- Nose: Distinctly juicy fruit and creamy malt, then a little floral, pleasantly sweet – roasted barley, almond and a trace of honey; honey, caramel, dried apricot and apple slices, mixed peel and rich vanilla
- Palate: Barley malt again, warm buttered toast, the honey now more distinct, plus some aniseed; layers of creamy vanilla, caramel and honey, complemented by orchard fruit, dried citrus zest and a faint touch of peat smoke
