The Wild Turkey brand launched in 1942 and quickly became a bestseller. At the time, producer Austin Nichols was still a trading company that had its whiskeys made under contract at various distilleries. In 1971, Austin Nichols acquired the “D. L. Moore” distillery near Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, from the Ripy family; ever since, all Austin Nichols whiskeys have been produced there.
