Profile: What Makes Old Ballantruan “The Peated Malt” Special
Tomintoul was built in 1965. The distillery produces a light, pleasantly spicy malt. With “Old Ballantruan” Tomintoul produces a peated Speysider in the traditional way – unusually heavily peated for a Speyside malt. The malt is bottled at 50% ABV and without chill-filtration.
Tasting Notes: What Old Ballantruan “The Peated Malt” Tastes Like
- Nose: Heather and floral notes, plus a pleasant smoke note; vanilla fudge, toffee and a hint of menthol
- Palate: Distinctly malty and traces of citrus fruit; barley sugar, toasted cereal and mossy peat, plus vanilla, clove and nutmeg
