Profile: What Makes Bushmills 16 Year Old Special
Bushmills 16 Year Old is “Matured in Three Woods”: matured in three different cask types – American oak and oloroso sherry casks, finished in port casks. The influence of sherry and port is clear on the nose and still leaves room for the other components, from butter and blackcurrant to allspice and juniper. The port influence is particularly pronounced.
Bushmills is on the north coast of Antrim in Northern Ireland, not far from the Giant’s Causeway. The licence to distil in the Bushmills area dates back to 1608; the distillery itself was registered in 1784. The single malt is triple distilled, which gives a light, soft and fruity spirit. Today the distillery belongs to Proximo Spirits.
