Profile: What Makes Blanton's Gold Edition Special
The Blanton's distillery is named after Albert Blanton – he worked from 1897 to 1953 as master distiller at the Kentucky straight bourbon distillery and preserved many secrets of the art of distilling through American Prohibition. Blanton's triumphant rise began in 1984, the year the first Blanton's single barrel bourbon hit the market and swept up armfuls of awards. Blanton's whiskeys have a strikingly full body and are uniquely balanced. All bottlings are single-barrel releases stating the barrel number, warehouse and even the shelf on which the barrel was stored. Each individual barrel is hand-bottled at the peak of its maturity (after roughly 8–25 years). Variations of the horse-and-rider stopper figures are possible!
Tasting Notes: What Blanton's Gold Edition Tastes Like
- Nose: Sweet honey and rich vanilla notes, accompanied by delicate floral notes, later also chocolate and tart apple
- Palate: Drier than expected with vanilla, honey, toffee and tobacco
- Finish: Bold and spicy with a slightly stronger burn in the finish than the Original
