Signatory

The busy Mr. Symington.

Andrew Symington is a restless maker. And it is undoubtedly whiskey flowing through the veins of the founder and head of Signatory Vintage Scotch Whiskey Company Ltd. Even Andrew's grandfather worked for over four decades for the famous "Vat 69" and was very fond of whiskey enjoyment, they say. He was 96 years old.
Andrew Symington himself is initially Assistant Manager of the stylish Prestonfield House Hotel, when he decides to start his own business with borrowed 100,000 pounds of seed capital and to fill single malt whiskeys. Non-standardized, for which several barrels and vintages are mixed. But vintage Malts from individual barrels, each with the signature of a famous personality (hence the name "Signatory Vintage"). That with the signature is unnecessary, because Andrew has already sold his first bottling - a 1968 Glenlivet - before he finds a suitable signatory. He quickly made a name for himself in the whiskey world. Signatory is the only bottler of Ben Wyvis, Glen Flagler or Killyloch bottled distilleries, the first to launch a Braes of Glenlivet, installs its own bottling line and meticulously notes every detail of the whiskey on the labels: barrel number, date of distillation and bottling, Number of bottles and much more.
Finally in 2002, Andrew Symington has another dream and becomes a distillery owner: he buys the Edradour Distillery for around 5.5 million pounds and in 2007, with Signatory, moves completely to the picturesque distillery site near Pitlochry.
Although Signatory Vintage is now the number two independent bottler, Andrew Symington is very much in the public eye: no website, no press releases, no ads or events. It's best to visit him at Edradour. He is probably in overalls at the Mash Tun ...

Which whiskey do they make?

In addition to the normal (mostly single-barrel) bottling of single malts with 43% of Signatory there are the "Cask Strength Collection" and the "Un-Chillfiltered Collection". Signatory's portfolio also includes malts under the brand names "The Prestonfield" and "Dun Eideann".

speciality of the House

The excellent single malts from the Cask Strength Collection are pure, unadulterated whiskey enjoyment - and still look stylish.
