What happens when a Speyside single malt meets one of the world's rarest oak varieties? At GlenAllachie, the answer is The Sinteis Series Part IV—a journey that, surprisingly, leads all the way to Mongolia.

Behind the series is Billy Walker, Master Distiller and a renowned expert in cask experimentation at GlenAllachie. The name "Sinteis" is derived from the Scottish Gaelic word for synthesis and aptly describes the concept: combining distinct worlds of cask influence to create something unique.

For this fourth release, the single malt—distilled in 2015—was initially matured in Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. It then underwent a finishing period in Mongolian virgin oak. This is a rather unusual—and exceptionally rare—choice for whisky casks.

After all, Mongolian oak takes more than a century to grow before it is even suitable for such use. Furthermore, only naturally fallen trees may be harvested. Simply reordering a few casks? That is no easy task. So, for anyone who thought one whisky cask was much like another, this offers a quick lesson in the realities of sourcing wood.

GlenAllachie itself is located in Scotland’s Speyside region and was founded in 1967. Since 2017, the distillery has been part of the group led by Billy Walker. Since then, GlenAllachie has become known above all for its unwavering focus on cask maturation and its creative work with various types of wood.

The GlenAllachie 2015 – The Sinteis Series Part IV was bottled in 2026 after ten years of maturation and is presented at a robust cask strength of 58.5% ABV. It is neither chill-filtered nor artificially colored.

In doing so, this bottling combines Scottish distillery tradition with a truly unusual piece of natural history. Or, in short: Speyside meets Mongolia – Billy Walker makes the introduction official.
