Portrait: What makes the Aberargie Inaugural Release special

Some premieres come with a red carpet. Others with wellies. The Aberargie Single Malt Scotch Whisky “Inaugural Release” clearly opts for the latter – and that's precisely what makes it so appealing. Nestled on the border between the Scottish Highlands and Lowlands, where hills and fields practically meet, rises the young Aberargie Distillery. Here, whisky isn't simply produced – it's nurtured.
From the very beginning, everything from growing the barley to bottling remains under their own control. “All for the love of whisky” is therefore less a slogan than a lived conviction. Behind the project are Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers and Brian and Jamie Morrison – a family who know that good things take time. In November 2017, the first new make spirit flowed from the stills. After that, it was a matter of waiting. Over eight years of patience, observation, and probably a few appraising nods later, it was clear: Now it was ready. And when a Morrison says, “That’s good enough,” he means it. The base is barley from their own 300-acre farm – 52% Golden Promise, 48% Laureate.
Two varieties, one goal: uncompromising origin. The maturation in first-fill bourbon and sherry casks was carried out with the same care with which sports cars are polished elsewhere – only with considerably more grip on the ground.
Bottled at 48.2% ABV, naturally non-chill filtered and without added coloring. Transparency here is not a marketing term, but part of our DNA. This is also evident in the striking bottle: embossed details, a unique glass shape, and a leather neck label – you almost want to place it on the mantelpiece and give it a nod of appreciation. The Inaugural Release is therefore more than just the first bottling.
It's a statement. Or, to put it in good Scottish fashion: a rather successful start.

Tasting Notes: This is how the Aberargie Inaugural Release tastes like

  • Nose: An inviting opening with warm, baked apple and golden pastry aromas reminiscent of freshly baked goods. A delicate hint of honey overlays this, lending the nose a gentle sweetness. With a little time, dried fruits and a subtle, elegant spiciness unfold, providing additional depth.

  • Palate: On the palate, the whisky is soft yet clearly structured. Notes of sultanas and prunes dominate the profile, lending it a fruity intensity. Beneath this lies a malty depth that gives substance to the overall profile. The barrel aging is well-balanced and supports the structure without being overpowering.
  • Finish: The finish is medium to long and fades with a delicate, slightly herbal note. A clear, clean structure remains present, ensuring a harmonious, well-defined aftertaste.
