Portrait: What makes the Campfire - Feis Ile 2025 Elements of Islay special
For the Elements of Islay series, Elixir Distillers carefully select whiskies from both active and defunct distilleries on the island of Islay. From casks of different ages and occasionally from different distilleries, the independent bottlers compose characterful blended malts - with the aim of capturing the full spectrum of the island's typical style: peaty, medicinal, and maritime.
The Elements of Islay Campfire concludes the limited-edition "Fire Trilogy" and was released especially for Fèis Ìle 2025. It combines three distinctive single malts from the north and south coasts of Islay into a complex blended malt, matured in Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks, first-fill bourbon casks and toasted fresh oak barrels.
Its aroma is inspired by the idea of sitting comfortably around a campfire and roasting s'mores: notes of ginger cookies, dark chocolate with candied orange and toasted marshmallows characterize the complex flavor. A whisky that impressively combines smoky warmth and sweet depth.
Tasting Notes: This is how the Campfire - Feis Ile 2025 Elements of Islay tastes like
- Nose: a warm, inviting scent that immediately reminds one of a crackling campfire. Sweet and spicy aromas of ginger biscuits, roasted marshmallows, and candied orange rise, accompanied by a gentle hint of dark chocolate. The smoke is present, but not dominant. Softly integrated and harmonious with the deep sherry and oak accents
- Palate: full-bodied and complex. The typical Islay smoke combines with notes of cinnamon, toffee, burnt vanilla, and the fruity sweetness of dark dried fruits. Maturation in PX and Oloroso casks provides depth, while the fresh oak and bourbon barrels deliver spice and structure.
