With the Ardbeg Smokiverse, the cult distillery from Islay is finally taking off into space - and not just metaphorically. For Ardbeg Day 2025, Ardbeg is releasing a limited-edition bottling that sounds like it came straight from a tropical volcanic planet: fruity, smoky, wild, and absolutely off the wall.

For the first time, the so-called High Gravity Mash was used for this whisky - a mash with a particularly high barley content, which must have caused the Whisky Creation Team to frolic in orbit.
Some time ago, the Whisky Creation Team dared to try a special experiment: They changed the ratio of malted barley to water during the mashing process. The result was the so-called High Gravity Mash - a mash with a higher barley content, which significantly intensified the development of tropical-fruity aromas. After maturing in former bourbon casks, the Ardbeg Smokiverse presents itself with brown cane sugar, ripe barley, and toasted sourdough bread, accompanied by juicy exotic fruits and a hint of sweet peat smoke. The result? Smoked bubble gum, ripe barley, tropical fruits, brown sugar, and a hint of toasted sourdough bread. Sounds crazy? It is - but in the best Ardbeg tradition.

For Ardbeg Day on May 31, 2025, the crowning conclusion of the legendary Fèis Ìle, the SMOKIVERSE was presented at the Ardbeg distillery.

Tasting Notes: This is what the Ardbeg SMOKIVERSE tastes like

• Nose: an intense first impression with fruity, ester-rich aromas reminiscent of smoked chewing gum - unusual, playful, and yet typically Ardbeg. Ripe barley and toasted sourdough bread add depth and warmth to the aroma. With a little water, a second face opens up: sweet, tropical smoke, as from gently smoked pineapple and mango slices - aromatic, almost exotic
• Palate: the texture is lush and creamy, almost oily, and leads into strong, sooty notes of tar, tar oil, anise, and cloves. These powerful impressions are balanced by a striking sweetness of brown cane sugar, which rounds off the profile. In the background, sweet oak and a hint of leather can be seen. and structured wood notes that give the whole an elegant depth
• Finish: long and warming, with earthy peat reminiscent of fresh peat balls - added to this are the embers of a campfire and a fine charcoal note that fades slowly but lingers long
