Whisky has been distilled in Campbeltown, in the southern part of the Kintyre Peninsula, for many centuries. The oldest evidence dates back to 1591. The Springbank distillery is also located in the former whisky capital of the world and has been producing whiskey of the highest quality here since 1828. The independent Springbank distillery is one of the few distilleries in Scotland still run by members of the original family - the Mitchells. The current owner, Hedley G. Wright, is her direct descendant. In general, this distillery is a living tradition: The premises not only consist of the original headquarters from 1828, but also parts of the former Longrow, Rieclachan, Union, Springside and Argyll distilleries...
