Portrait: What makes the Daftmill Summer Batch Release 2011/2023
Extremely little single malt with extremely high demand - the Single Farm Estate Whisky from Daftmill in a nutshell. At Daftmill Farm in the Scottish Lowlands everything revolves around cows, potatoes, carrots and the cultivation of malting barley. Since 2006, the Cuthbert family has also been processing their own grain into celebrated single malt.
This rare farm whisky is always maturing at least 10 years after it is distilled in very small quantities sometimes no more than 100 Casks per year. And only in the off-season (June and July as well as in winter), when neither potatoes nor barley need to be sown.
The new Daftmill Summer Batch Release 2011/2023 is based on Publican barley, which was harvested by John and Sandy on August 28th and 29th, 2009. Malted at Crisp Malt in Alloa in the summer of 2010, the farm distillery distilled it into their Summer Batch Release. 27 first fill bourbon casks from Clermont Springs in Kentucky were filled from June to August 2011 and bottled in September 2023 in 6,550 bottles.
