In Campbeltown, in the southern part of the Kintyre Peninsula, whisky has been distilled for many centuries. The oldest evidence dates back to 1591. The Springbank distillery is also located in the former whiskey capital of the world and has been producing whiskey of the highest quality here since 1828.
Springbank is an independent distillery and one of the few distilleries in Scotland that is still run by members of the original family - the Mitchells.
Today's owner Hedley G. Wright is her direct descendant. In general, this distillery is a living tradition: the premises consist not only of the original headquarters from 1828, but also of parts of the former distilleries Longrow, Rieclachan, Union, Springside and Argyll...
Tasting Notes: This is what the Springbank 18 year old Release 2024 tastes like
- Nose: the sherry caskß is immediately recognizable, distinct aromas of Medjool dates, raisins and Demerara sugar, behind which are blueberries and fudge - above all lime and ripe figs
- Palate: creamy mouthfeel with notes of cappuccino foam and tiramisu - followed by notes of strawberries, Christmas cake and marzipan - hints of cinnamon in the background
- Finish: süß and juicy on the finish, distinct tones of syrup and sugared shortbread
