Founded in 1825, Edradour had changing owners - from the New York mafia to Andrew Symington, the man behind Signatory Vintage. Production has hardly changed: Edradour works largely as in the 19th century, including with original equipment. Long a legend among single malt fans, the Highland distillery bottles its most peaty single malts under the Ballechin brand, distilled from malt with at least 50ppm phenolic content.
Freshly designed, the Ballechin 13 years old demonstrates the harmony of peat smoke and fruit. The "heavily peated" whisky matured in both bourbon and sherry casks. At 54.9% vol. Cask Strength it unfolds campfire smoke with plums and wood spices as well as raisins and salted pistachios.
