A smoky, peaty blended malt Scotch whisky from Hunter Laing – only malt whiskies from the island of Islay go into this bottling. The whisky is bottled without chill-filtration, and the balance of smoothness and complexity comes from the interplay of the malts, some of which matured in bourbon hogsheads. Smoke and peat meet sea air, salt and an unexpectedly fruity banana note.
Tasting Notes: What Islay Journey Series Tastes Like
- Nose: Plenty of smoke and damp ash, with some tar behind – overripe bananas and old leather
- Palate: Mouth-filling with distinct peat, vinegar and seagrass – above all again the bananas and damp ash, some iodine and gauze
- Finish: Long finish – peat and smoke stay present for a long time
