Profile: What Makes The Epicurean Single Ruby Port Cask Special
The bottling comes from Douglas Laing’s Remarkable Regional Malts series. The malt first matured in premium American oak and was then re-racked into a hand-selected ruby port single cask for a second maturation of more than twelve months. The port cask comes from the Douro Valley in northern Portugal and gives juicy red fruit and tannins to the whisky. In the sample it is easy to get to know.
The whisky is bottled non-chill filtered at 48% ABV; the edition is limited to 684 bottles.
Tasting Notes: What The Epicurean Single Ruby Port Cask Tastes Like
- Nose: Redcurrant and blackberries mixed with the typical grassiness of Lowland malts, red apples and citrus notes between sweet and sour, then a wave of oak spice with pepper and clove and a touch of grainy biscuits
- Palate: Fairly light bodied with hints of Seville oranges, plums and grape skin bitterness alongside chocolate and pickled ginger, with a coppery note, pepper and roasted nuts
