Profile: What Makes Vermouth del Professore Rosso Special
A fine, sweet Italian vermouth named after the legendary American bartender Jerry Thomas, called “Del Professore”. The recipe is a collaboration between Federico Ricatto, Carlos Quaglia and the Jerry Thomas Speakeasy bar in Rome. The base is a Muscat wine, to which 13 herbs, spices and cane sugar are added.
Jerry Thomas was a pioneer among 19th-century American bartenders and was nicknamed “The Professor”. The herbs and spices include mountain mint, wormwood, gentian, cloves and mace.
Tasting Notes: What Vermouth del Professore Rosso Tastes Like
- Nose: A warm, soothing perfume of balsam and mint, balanced with bitter oils, orange zest and vanilla; herbs, citrus and honey
