Portrait: What makes the MacLeod's Islay Single Malt Whisky special
MacLeod's Islay Single Malt Whisky is a bottling by the renowned independent bottler Ian MacLeod Distillers, founded in 1933 and is now one of the largest independent companies of its kind in Scotland. Thanks to its extensive in-house stocks, Ian MacLeod can access high-quality casks from various distilleries and regularly brings interesting, characterful whiskies to market.
This bottling is a single malt whisky from the Scottish island of Islay, which comes from an unnamed distillery. Islay is known worldwide for its particularly distinctive whiskies, which are characterized by maritime influences, peat smoke, and characteristic spice. MacLeod's Islay Single Malt is part of a regional series with which Ian MacLeod captures the typical flavors and styles of various Scottish whisky regions.
The whisky is bottled at 40%vol. in the classic 0.7-liter bottle. It is aimed at both newcomers to the world of Islay malts and lovers of smoky whiskies seeking an expressive yet accessible representative of this island region. The origin remains secret - the style is unmistakably Islay.
Tasting Notes: This is how the MacLeod's Islay Single Malt Whisky tastes like
- Nose: Strong peat smoke immediately hits the nose, accompanied by salty marine aromas - behind this are hints of sherry and an earthy depth, typical of Islay malts
- Palate: Intense and robust on the palate - dominant smoky notes meet damp peat, blended with maritime nuances and a hint of dark sherry sweetness - powerful and direct
- Finish: Long-lasting, smoky, and slightly salty - the peat remains noticeable and is rounded off by a subtle sherry note - distinctive and typically Islay

Schöner, rauchiger Single Malt einer unbekannten Brennerei. Ich tippe auf Lagavulin, obwohl die eigentlich keine Fässer mehr herausgeben sollen. Sehr gutes PLV.
