And Sarah Hewitt, head of bottling, namesake of the new whisky liqueur, and - believe it or not - not at all a fan of neat whisky, is exactly that kind of person. A bit like a baker eyeing gluten with suspicion. But hey, innovation rarely arises from bland, standardized enthusiasm.
Nc’Nean itself is located in the Scottish Highlands, where romantic nature, eco-spirit, and the art of distilling form a surprisingly modern union. The distillery operates entirely climate-friendly and with a touch of “we do things differently” attitude, more commonly associated with startups than whisky producers at the end of long, winding single-track roads.
And then Sarah came up with an idea that was an instant hit: a vegan whisky liqueur, made without dairy and instead using gluten-free oats.
A liqueur that proved so successful that it sold out almost immediately in the United Kingdom. While elsewhere they're sadly staring at empty shelves, here in Germany we can happily announce: "We still have it!" The Quiet Rebels series dedicates a bottling each year to a team member who, with gentle stubbornness, goes her own way. This year it's Sarah – the rebel who prefers cream liqueurs and has spontaneously developed a completely new product idea from that. The result is 2,000 carefully bottled bottles of a liqueur made with Nc’Nean’s Organic Single Malt, Demerara sugar, and the aforementioned oats.
