The name Kilkerran, by the way, doesn't come from the distillery itself – but from the Gaelic "Ceann Loch Cille Chiarain," the original name of the town of Campbeltown. Why not simply "Glengyle 12"? Because the name was already trademarked. No joke.
But hey, that only makes it more appealing. Things get really interesting with the 12-year-old: It's matured in 70% ex-bourbon and 30% ex-sherry casks, a rather successful blend of classic and charmingly complex.
