With the Romero & Sons 21 Year Old Cuatro Leyendas #02, they impressively demonstrate that rum from the Andes not only exists but can be quite spectacular.

This single cask rum is a true rarity: only 235 bottles worldwide, aged for 21 years – and all this at an altitude of 2,900 meters! Here, where others are already gasping for air, this rum developed its character in old bourbon barrels: concentrated, expressive, and with a touch of mountain air. It was distilled by the family patriarch, Napoleon Romero, himself – so it's practically rum with a pedigree. It is dedicated to El Padre Almeida, a priest from Quito who secretly slipped out of the monastery at night to enjoy life. One could therefore say: a rum with a divine aroma and a slightly sinful aftertaste.
On the nose, notes of dark caramel, vanilla, dried fruit, and toasted wood emerge - as if someone had opened a dessert bar in an old church. On the palate, the revelation follows: full-bodied, warm, and complex, with aromas of toffee, cocoa, tobacco, leather, and a hint of spice. The alcohol is robust, but perfectly integrated – true cask strength with character, not a sledgehammer. The finish is long, dry, and elegant, with light roasted notes and a hint of honey – like the last word of a confessional whisper.
