Portrait: What makes the Highland Single Malt Whisky 18 year old Thompson Bros. so special

If the word "whisky distillery" brings to mind large halls, polished copper kettles, and dramatic drone flights over the Highlands, you'll be disabused of that notion at Thompson Bros.. Their starting point? A former fire station – big enough for a small car, small enough for real character. Welcome to Dornoch Castle, where it all began - with a bar, an idea, and two brothers who prefer bottling to chatting.

Phil and Simon Thompson aren't industry heads with marketing jargon, but real whisky nerds with attitude. They transformed their parents' hotel business into a place of pilgrimage for whisky lovers. And at some point, they thought: Why not just bottle their own whisky? Or better yet, bottle it better.

Thus, their passion evolved into an independent bottler label with cult status - Thompson Bros., known for honest bottlings, hand-picked casks, and labels with character (sometimes even with a wink).

The Highland Single Malt 18 year old comes - as is so often the case with these two - from an unnamed distillery. Why? Because it's not about names, but what matters: the result in the glass. Matured in refill casks, shaped by time and patience - bottled so you can see for yourself.

In 2026, the project will move: from the micro-fire station to the new Struie Distillery. More space, just as much soul.
