Portrait: What makes the Bimber Shoulders of Giants - Rudolf - The Engineer special
What do a German inventor, a London whisky, and an Andalusian sherry cask have in common? No, this is not the beginning of a Scottish-Spanish-English joke - but the recipe for one of the most exciting bottlings of the year: Bimber Rudolf - The Engineer, part of the Germany Edition 2025: Shoulders of Giants.
With this limited series, the London craft distillery Bimber pays homage to the titans of technological history - and shows that they not only stand on the shoulders of giants, but also distill on the basis of some pretty ingenious ideas. In Rudolf's case: diesel. Lots of diesel. But don't worry - there's no truck smell here.
Rudolf Diesel, the father of the diesel engine, is given a liquid monument with Cask #540/39. Distilled in London, refined with a Fino Sherry finish from Andalusia, this bottling brings more international cooperation to the glass than a mid-sized EU summit.
And all this in a strictly limited edition: Only 293 bottles - not exactly mass-produced, but more of an understated homage to whisky. 57.6% vol. ensures a real feat of engineering in the glass - naturally uncolored and non-chill-filtered, as befits honest craftsmanship.
In short: Bimber Rudolf is not just a whisky. It's proof that even great ideas need a cask - and that even with "Diesel" in the name, you can come across as quite smooth. Cheers to the geniuses of yesterday - and the whisky of today.

Tasting Notes: This is how the Bimber Shoulders of Giants - Rudolf - The Engineer tastes like
- Nose: Elegant and complex. Subtle saltiness blends with a nutty dryness, typical of Fino Sherry. Fine wood spice and a hint of toasted oak give the aroma structure and depth.
- Palate: Dry and precise. The Andalusian influences are evident in the form of almonds, a hint of sea salt, and subtle fruitiness. The unpeated Bimber character remains clearly recognizable, but is wonderfully complemented by the cask finish.
- Finish: Medium to long, with persistent nuttiness and gentle oak tones. The salty freshness lingers in the mouth and ensures a pleasantly dry yet rounded finish - a true gentleman in overalls.
