Portrait: What makes the GlenAllachie 21 year old Batch 6 Cask Strength so special.
What do you do with over 50 years of whisky experience, a cellar full of fine sherry casks, and a healthy dose of perfectionism? If your name is Billy Walker: You craft a new Batch GlenAllachie 21 Year Old - and really go for it.
Batch 6 is not for the indecisive. Cask strength with 52.8% vol., meaning no frills, chill filtration, or coloring. Just a barrel, patience and a master blender who knows what he's doing. Only hand-picked Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso Sherry Puncheons and Hogsheads were blended – true oak VIPs with a long maturation period.
The GlenAllachie distillery, at home in Speyside since 1967, was long the quiet hero in blends. But since its takeover by Billy Walker in 2017, it has gone solo – and with vigor. The standard range starts at eight years, but the 21-year-old is something of an evening-wear flagship.
Luxurious, rare, complex – Batch 6 demonstrates that sherry cask maturation is more than just a trend. It's an art. And GlenAllachie paints a pretty impressive flavor picture.
Conclusion: The GlenAllachie 21 Year Old Batch 6 is like a well-aged gentleman with a deep gaze, a full wallet, and a penchant for heavy furniture. Not loud, but powerful. And definitely not for those who drink quickly.
The cask strength of 52.8% ABV gives the whisky additional depth – optionally open with a few drops of water. A dram to discover, not to rush.
Tasting Notes: This is how the GlenAllachie 21 year old Batch 6 Cask Strength tastes like

- Palate: full-bodied and complex - rich dark chocolate forms the base, complemented by dried red berries and intense maraschino cherries - heather honey and a fine spice of candied ginger are added as it progresses - sweet, spicy, and wonderfully balanced
- Finish: long, deep, and warming. Plum brandy provides a fruity and spicy finish, accompanied by tart mocha notes - a noble, lasting finish with character
