The Edradour Distillery has experienced turbulent times in its long history – from its illustrious beginnings as a producer of successful blended Scotch whiskies, through a period under the control of the New York Mafia, to its takeover by a major corporation. Today, it is fortunately back in independent Scottish hands – and has remained true to its roots: As a small Highland distillery, Edradour continues to produce handcrafted premium single malt.

An expressive example of this is the Edradour 12 year old Bordeaux Wine Casks.This single malt matured in former red wine barrels from the famous French Bordeaux region. Bottled as a small batch with increased drinking strength, it combines the typical Edradour character with intense berry aromas and fine hints of fine red wines.

Tasting Notes: This is what the Edradour 12 year old Bordeaux Wine Casks tastes like

• Nose: fruity and velvety - with intense aromas of dark forest berries, ripe plums and a hint of blackcurrant - behind this are fine wine aromas: red grapes, a hint of leather and a subtle oak spice - a sweet note of vanilla and light caramel rounds off the bouquet
• Palate: full-bodied and soft, with a strong fruit touch - juicy berries - especially blackberries and black cherries - are in the foreground, accompanied by dark chocolate, dried fruits and an elegant Tannin structure - the wine influence is harmoniously integrated and gives the whisky depth and complexity without masking the Edradour character
• Finish: long-lasting and warming - initially sweet and fruity, then increasingly dry with fine wood tones, light pepper, and a hint of red grapes - an elegant finish with winey spice and velvety fruit sweetness
