Portrait: What makes the Glen Scotia 14 year old Icons of Campbeltown The Dragon Release No. 2 special

The “Icons of Campbeltown” series, launched in 2023, includes five bottlings.
“The Dragon” is the second after “The Mermaid” bottled in this series.
The focus here is the Market Cross of Campbeltown - a Celtic cross in the market square of the town of Campbeltown on the Kintyre Peninsula.
There are saints from that time in the stone cross of the Celts. Every bottling tells a story of this cross.
The left arm of the Campbeltown Cross shows St. Michael heroically slaying a fire-breathing dragon with his spear. During the Victorian heyday of whiskey making, fires in the distilleries of Campbeltown were common, similar to how dragons ravaged villages and castles in fairy tales. These difficult times brought the distillery community closer together, as demonstrated on December 17, 1899, when Glen Scotia and heroic community members fought a fire at the Dalintober Distillery and saved the distillery.
Today there are no survivors in Campbeltown Find a saint or dragon fighter, but a community that defies all adversity thanks to its spirit of unity.
The Glen Scotia 14 year old Icons of Campbeltown The Dragon Release No. 2 initially matured for over 14 years in former Bourbon Casks, then the single malt received a six-month finish in former Barolo Red Wine Casks.

Bottled at cask strength with an alcohol content of 56.8%vol. without the addition of dyes and without chill filtration.

The Glen Scotia Icons of Campbeltown series serves as a homage to the Campbeltown landmark, the  "Campbeltown Cross" and is inspired by a number of saints, iconic beings and creatures carved into the cross. Each release in the five-part series is intended to embody and celebrate one of these iconic beings. To achieve this, Glen Scotia has teamed up with famed artist Joel Holtzman (Lucasfilm, Marvel, Disney, Macmillan) to bring each of these icons to life during Master Blender Iain McAlister has created a whiskey that perfectly showcases every icon.
