Industry veteran Billy Walker and The GlenAllachie are pursuing an ambitious goal: peated Speyside Single Malt to create something that is second to none. Meikle Tòir (pronounced “Mee-kuhl Tor”) is the name for the new brand: Gaelic for “big pursuit”, which is loosely translated as one big mission.
The independent distillery has been working on the smoky style that is rare for the whiskey region since 2018. Albeit on a small scale: only for Around 100,000 liters of peated raw spirit are distilled six weeks per calendar year. The barley malt is kilned over mainland peat from St. Fergus, which, compared to island peat, ensures sweeter smoke with oak tones. It is used in a moist state - for maximum aromas and a peat content of the whiskey of currently up to 70 ppm (in barley malt up to 95 ppm).
After 5 years of maturation The second bottling will now be launched on the market in September 2024.
With the Meikle Tòir - The Turbo the name says it all: the limited single malt is blended from the distillate with the highest phenol content. The 2024 release matured in Virgin Oak Casks and Oloroso-Sherry Hogsheads into a multi-faceted Whisky with a hefty dose of peat, reaching a whopping 70 ppm.
