Portrait: What makes the I Muri Puglia Primitivo special

The I Muri Primitivo is not a quiet wine. It's the type of wine that doesn't take long at a party before everyone says, "Who's that guy with the intense entrance?" - and then voluntarily takes a second glass.

Produced by the FANTINI GROUP VINI SRL in sunny Ortona, Italy, this wine has everything you'd expect from a true Primitivo - except complexity. It comes from Puglia, the heel of Italy's boot, where sun, sea, and old stone walls ("Muri," for the language nerds) shape life and wine alike. And that's exactly where the name comes from:I Muri – a homage to the region's dry-stone walls, which are somehow rustic and stylish at the same time. Just like this wine.

The 2023 vintage is at its best: powerful, deep red, and a bit mysterious – like an Italian who knows how to remain charmingly silent. And with an alcohol content of 13.5% vol., it has its feet firmly planted on the ground without appearing arrogant.

Whether steak, game, or swordfish with rosemary – this wine says "Ci sto" to everything. And yes, it comes with a plastic cork, which might make purists wrinkle their noses – but it's easy to open at any time. Another statement.

Can it be aged? Sure – up to 3 years. But honestly: Who wants to wait that long?

In short:A Primitivo with plenty of Italian soul – charming, powerful, and with that certain "Ciao, bella" factor.

Conclusion: A strong-charactered, yet uncomplicated Primitivo with a Mediterranean soul – powerful, round, and wonderfully easy to drink.

Tasting Notes: This is how the I Muri Puglia Primitivo tastes like

  • se: The I Muri Primitivo opens with an intense and inviting bouquet. Ripe red fruits such as cherries, plums, and wild berries dominate the nose. Spicy aromas of vanilla, licorice, and a hint of tobacco lend depth and complexity. A subtle earthiness rounds out the aromatic profile.
  • Palate: On the palate, the wine is soft, full-bodied, and velvety with a pronounced yet well-integrated tannin structure. The fruitiness of the aroma is clearly reflected—dark berries are particularly prominent. A harmonious structure ensures a balanced, pleasant mouthfeel. Despite its power, the wine appears approachable and round, with a subtle spicy note in the background.
  • Finish: The finish is medium to long, with a gentle lingering aroma of ripe fruit and a light spicy note. The tannins fade out softly, giving the wine a smooth finish that leaves you wanting the next sip.
