Portrait: What makes the Horgelus Rosé 2024 Cotes de Gascogne IGP special
Some wines have big names. Others simply evoke good cheer – like the Horgelus Rosé 2024 from the charming Côtes de Gascogne. A wine that doesn't have to be loud to stand out – and that will elicit a gentle nod from even the most suspicious red wine lover.
The whole thing is produced by the Domaine Horgelus, somewhere amidst sun-drenched hills, the song of cicadas, and the quiet conviction that good things start early in the morning. Because winemaker Yoan Le Menn has a plan: pick the grapes before the sun sets. Why? Because freshness doesn't stay in the vineyard, it belongs in the glass. Sounds logical, and feels good.
The Côtes de Gascogne, once better known for Armagnac and a relaxed lifestyle, has now also made a name for itself in the wine business. And while other regions boast centuries of wine history, the Gascons prefer to make wine that simply brings joy – without drama, without corkscrew depression.
The Horgelus Rosé, by the way, comes with a practical screw cap – for those who prefer to celebrate the wine rather than the cork. It's also vegan-friendly, in case someone asks at a picnic.
Whether with salad, pizza, the beach, or the balcony – this rosé is always overdressed in its pink elegance. And with a storage life of up to 2 years, you can even forget about it for a moment – although: why would you?
Tasting Notes: This is how the Horgelus Rosé 2024 Cotes de Gascogne IGP tastes like.
- Nose: Lively and fruity - The nose reveals intense aromas of freshly picked strawberries, red berries, and a hint of raspberry. A light floral note rounds off the bouquet and lends the rosé a fresh, playful elegance.
- Palate: Seductively light with a harmonious balance between fruitiness and freshness. The impression of fruit salad with whipped cream meets a fine acid structure that provides liveliness. Soft on the palate with a juicy, round mouthfeel.
- Finish: Exceptionally mild and pleasantly drinkable. The fruity sweetness lingers gently, leaving a refreshing feeling that invites the next sip.
