The independent Glengyle distillery was founded in 1872 by William Mitchell and produced a typical Campbeltown malt for over half a century before the company closed its doors in 1925.
More than For 70 years it looked as if this decision was final.
However, around the turn of the millennium, Winifred Ewing and Hedley Wright, both descendants of the Mitchell family, decided to step into the new era with accumulated knowledge: after a development phase After four years, the distillery was ceremoniously reopened on March 25, 2004.
The fact that the new malt was christened "Kilkerran" reflects pride in the long tradition of whiskey distilling in the region: the name is derived from Ceann Loch Cille Chiarain, an early Christian settlement that once stood where Campbeltown is now found.
