Portrait: what makes the Lochlea - Plowing Edition - First Crop so special.

With Lochlea, the Scottish distillery landscape has grown around an independent, family-run farm distillery.
For the unmistakable style of their single malt, the former Laphroaig Distillery Manager and current Lochlea Production Director and Master Blender, John Campbell, is not the only one responsible.

As one of only four distilleries in Scotland, Lochlea only uses barley own cultivation, distills and matures their whisky on site.
With the "Seasonal Releases" Lochlea reflects what happens on the farm during the changing seasons.

The Ploughing Edition is the first peat-smoky one Lochlea bottling - and the first smoky whiskey for John Campbell after Laphroaig.

The single malt matured in a combination of ex-Islay casks and peaty quarter casks.

The result: a perfect Dram for the cold season mi t Aromas of candy, baked fruit, nuts and lingering Islay peat.

The latest bottling in the annually renewed series was inspired by the long winters on the farm where Scotland's national poet Robert Burns lived from 1777 to 1784 lived.

It's the season for "ploughing" the fields Burns once farmed in preparation for spring sowing.
With the icy blue label, Lochlea also reflects the chilly winters of the West Coast of Ayrshire.
