Around 700 kilometers from Madagascar, in the middle of the Indian Ocean, lies the small volcanic island of La Réunion, an overseas department and region of France - and a tropical sugar cane paradise.
The Savanna distillery has been producing rum by hand since the 19th century.

For Savanna HERR 57, the distillery - unusual for rums from the overseas departments - transforms molasses into a real ester experience.
With an ester content of a proud 796 grams per hectolitre of pure alcohol, the unaged pot still rum defies its Jamaican relatives.
The esters form during a particularly long fermentation.
The molasses from the Bois Rouge sugar cane variety ferments for a full eleven days.
At a crisp 57%vol. Alcohol content, Savanna HERR (High Ester Rum Réunion) unpacks a lush, tropical fruit basket with notes of pineapple and passion fruit accompanied by sugar cane and a mineral touch.
