Maritime and complex: Old Pulteney Single Casks for Germany
On the northernmost shores of Scotland, where the North Sea meets the Caithness coast, lies the town of Wick.
It is home to a whisky that captures the essence of its region: Old Pulteney.
"The Maritime Malt" matures in warehouses exposed to the harsh sea air.
Accordingly, the single malts dominate the entire keyboard from subtle coastal chords to more pronounced salty notes.
The small distillery has filled two of their Casks, which are shaped by the sea, especially for Germany.
Both single casks matured for at least 15 years in former Bourbon Barrels on Scotland's rough coast.
In the Bourbon Barrel with the number 1454, the Old Pulteney 15 year old 2006/2022 developed aromas of honey toffee, apples and almonds in addition to typical vanilla notes.
Salted caramel and tropical fruits finally combine for a creamy, lingering finish.
