Legendary from Lagavulin: Unique 30-year-old Single Sherry Cask

Around 1990 he began the triumph of smoky Scotch whiskys - led by the Lagavulin Distillery.
The malt whiskys from the distillery, which was officially founded in 1816, are archetypes of Islay single malts and are among the undeniable favorites of "peat heads" around the world today.
They are famous for their heavy, oily character, shaped by the pear-shaped stills with unusually wide necks.
And: For the fact that demand always exceeds supply.

A principle that applies in particular to single casks.
The coveted Lagavulin casks are rarely available.

The master blenders of the Casks of Distinction program have found such a jewel among barrels, butts and the like.
For the members of Casks of Distinction (short: CoD), Dr. Craig Wilson, Dr. Emma Walker, Maureen Robinson and Dr. Jim Beveridge the more than 50 warehouses of Diageo's extensive collection, pull unique casks from the hidden and give them a star that designates them as rare and exceptional.

The bearer of this star is the Lagavulin 30 y.o. The Islay Single Malt from 1991 is not just extremely rare. It is the first official Lagavulin single cask bottling of this age to be fully matured in a sherry cask. In addition, the single cask as "Joint-CoD" is a real premiere. Since the start of the program by Diageo in 2016, several CoD keg owners have joined forces for the first time.

Behind the bottling are the Hong Kong Whiskey Fellows, known for their Brora 42 year old, and the House Welley Whiskey Bar from Hong Kong, whose founder already bottled a Lagavulin from 1995.
In addition, Boris Borissov and Sebastian Jäger, founding members of the Wu DRAM Clan, who released the first CoD in Europe with their European Lagavulin Fans 21 years ago and have a very close bond with Diageo.
And: Christoph Kirsch, like the Lagavulin, also a 1991 vintage, for whom a great dream has come true with this bottling.

Lagavulin fans can expect an incredible single malt - luscious in its natural coloring, with a complex, engaging profile of berry fruit, bacon and smoke that unfolds creamy, bold and complex.
After 30 years in the first-fill Pedro Ximénez/Oloroso Seasoned European Oak Butt #5403, the alcoholmeter still measures cask-strength 44.3%vol. Alcohol.

Nose: Dark fruits with the wonderfully subtle smoky flavors that Lagavulin develops with ripe age
Palate: fresh fruit, especially berries, and a bit of bacon, which (typical for old whiskys) goes straight into a mineral cellar note - the whiskey unfolds, becomes creamy, powerful, sweet, smoky and multi-layered
Finish: very long finish and with a strong presence
