Secure whisky rarity: Speymalt from Macallan Distillery
Legally active since 1824, 36 stills, a minimum production volume of 15 million liters and a distillery building that blends into the landscape as naturally as the hills of the Highlands: Macallan is one of Scotland's most famous whisky distilleries.
Independent bottlings of their beautifully complex distillates are rare, rarer still those bottled under the distillery's name.
You can still find them - at irregular intervals at the traditional bottler Gordon & MacPhail.
The new single cask rarity matured for around two decades in oak casks no. 5103, which were pre-stocked with sherry.
The Speymalt from Macallan Distillery 2001/2021 is an exemplary single malt for discerning sherry fans.
Neither chill-filtered nor colored, it unfolds at a cask strength of 57.6% vol. Alcohol content the noblest aromas and flavors.
Nose: noble sherry aromas, which lead to Seville orange peel, cinnamon and ginger
Palate: Lush fruit compote with dark chocolate, roasted hazelnuts and caramelized apples
Finish: Soft, medium-bodied finish with hints of toasted oak
