Campbeltown for Germany: Darkness exclusive bottling from the maritime peninsula
With Darkness, the name says it all: the at least three-month refinement in small sherry octave casks gives the independent bottlings their naturally dark color.
The specially made casks (the size of about an eighth of a standard sherry butt) ensure plenty of wood contact - and wonderfully dark fruity, spicy profiles.
The Campbeltown 6 year old Blended Malt was bottled exclusively for Germany.
The one with 58%vol. Alcohol content at cask strength crisp blended malt Scotch whisky comes from Scotland's smallest whiskey region.
Only three active distilleries make their home in Campbeltown on the Kintyre Peninsula (two more are planned).
Their oily, maritime whiskys are celebrated among connoisseurs far beyond the city limits.
Nose: fresh cinnamon rolls and new leather at the beginning, then aromas of dates and damp forest floor
Palate: Roasted coffee beans, fresh pastries with melted butter and nougat cream - dried apricots on top
Finish: citrus fruits and lots of chocolate in the long finish
